Key Performance Areas
In this dynamic, field-based position, the Machining Specialist draws upon their understanding of metal-cutting theory to demonstrate to our current and prospective customers how Sandvik Coromant is the world leader in providing machining solutions for the Aerospace, Oil & Gas, and Automotive industry segments. Through presentations, technical support, product evaluations, and monitoring our competitors, you contribute to our continued business growth, and our positioning as industry leaders delivering solutions that exceed established standards.
In addition, the Machining Specialist makes planned sales calls on current and prospective accounts (alone or in conjunction with a Sales Representative or other Sandvik Coromant personnel) to develop new business, support existing business, and/or make technical recommendations to customers regarding the use and application of Sandvik Coromant tooling
You also conduct testing of new and existing Sandvik Coromant products, and work with distributors and our end users to provide technical solutions for new machines purchased within the region, create cost savings, establish process improvements, and grow new sales.
Additionally, the Machining Specialist will:
  • Drive project creation by assisting the sales team in developing, planning, scheduling and directing process development opportunities
  • Provide engineering, application and process development support for Sandvik Coromant distributors and end users
  • Represent the sales team needs and issues with product management
  • Observe and report new or changing market trends to assist Product Management in the development of sales forecasts
  • Assist with the training of new employees in Sandvik tooling and machining products and processes
This role covers our Northeast Sales Zone which spans roughly from the Michigan/Ohio areas on the east through Pennsylvania, Maryland, New York, and all of New England. This is a field based position, and the location is flexible within the territory, but would ideally be based within Pennsylvania/Ohio/New York.
Your Profile
The Machining Specialist must possess an associate’s degree in an applied science, plus 5 to 7 years’ industry experience, or equivalence in a technical application position with a similar industry and a minimum of three years of experience with Sandvik tooling applications. In addition, the Machining Specialist must know how to read and interpret customer part prints and geometric tolerance requirements. CNC Programming experience is highly preferred.
You are a mechanically inclined individual who possesses exceptional organizational and presentation skills, and you cultivate relationships easily with customers and distributors. You also are well organized, and your ability to prioritize projects allows you to effectively manage the daily work flow. You should possess a demonstrated ability to work independently from a home office, supporting industrial customers in an assigned territory.
