Communications Student Assistant

International Media Support (IMS) is a non-profit organisation working to support journalists and media in countries affected by armed conflict, human insecurity and political transition. Across four continents we help to strengthen professional journalism and ensure that media can operate in challenging circumstances.
We’re looking for an energetic and creative Student Assistant to join our communications team to support the delivery of high-quality external communications about IMS’ work and the role of professional media in supporting democratic development. You will be working closely with colleagues and partners from around the world in a high-intensity environment with a multitude of diverse tasks. The ideal candidate will have an undergraduate degree in Journalism, Communications, International Development or another relevant subject and have an interest in communications/media and international current affairs.
Responsibilities
  • Update and strengthen IMS’ website and social media presence;
  • Create multimedia content, including print, web, photos, audio interviews for external target audiences;
  • Plan and support public outreach events;
  • Assist in the layout of publications and the production of marketing materials, fact sheets and statistics;
  • Plan and execute distribution strategies (online and offline) around key content types (publications, feature articles, event invitations) and create and maintain distribution databases;
  • Assist in managing and sharing information on programme activities between IMS’ programme departments and the Communications unit.
Qualifications
  • An undergraduate degree in Communications, Journalism, International Development or another relevant degree;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Danish;
  • Experience with social media platforms;
  • Very strong skills in Microsoft Office (Word and PowerPoint in particular);
  • Demonstrated layout skills and experience working in Photoshop, InDesign;
  • Strong attention to detail and good organisational skills;
  • Familiarity with video editing software an asset;
  • Familiarity with WordPress or other content management systems and HTML/JS/CSS is a plus;
  • Knowledge of Swedish or Norwegian is an asset.

The position is 18 hours per week and is located in IMS’ headquarters in Nørregade 18, 1165 Copenhagen K
