The role
We are currently looking for a Planning Engineer for the Tekai HEP project. Which will start immediately. The Project is located on the Tekai River in the district of Jerantut in the State of Pahang, West Malaysia. The Project consists of two cascading dams namely, Upper Tekai Dam and Lower Tekai Dam, both of which would have surface powerhouses. SMEC has been engaged to carry out the tender and detail design of the Project, followed by construction supervision. Currently, the Project is in the tender design stage which is to be completed by December 2014.
Key Responsibilities
During Tender Design Stage:
  • Develop construction program for main civil works (diversion works, dam, spillway, power station, access roads, transmission line); and
  • Prepare construction methodology report
During Construction Stage:
  • Prepare and maintain the overall project schedule to ensure optimization of resources and control of all associated project work
  • Routinely compare actual project performance to cost, schedule and resource baseline
  • Predict cost, duration and resources needed to complete the Project, by early identification of changes to the Project scope and proactively analyzing performance
  • Implement corrective action when performance trends deviate from the baseline schedule;
  • Promote accountability for meeting business plan and project objectives
  • Coordinate the schedules of multiple contractors and incorporate the information gathered into the overall project master schedule and
  • Monitor and forecast progress of activities in the contractors work schedules
Key Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 20 yrs in construction planning for large civil works projects, preferably dams and hydropower, Primavera and MS Project software
