Overview

Context

The Red Cross is the largest voluntary humanitarian organisation in the world. It promotes humanitarian values and provides emergency help to people in short-term crisis in the UK and overseas. Within the UK, the British Red Cross (BRCS) operates through 50,000 volunteers and 3,000 staff.

We seek to ensure that our organisation and our services are relevant and accessible to all. We value fresh perspective and insight gained by involving and welcoming people from the widest possible diversity of background, culture and experience.

Scope

These posts will support the Service Coordinator in rolling out the British Red Cross A&E Assisted Discharge pilot project which will involve; transportation, and resettlement of service users. Being a pilot, it is unknown to a certain extent, how many service users there will be - as such, we are looking to build a bank of casual workers who will operate on a flexible basis. Post holders will be required to travel throughout Bristol. The main aim of this pilot project is to prevent and reduce hospital admissions.

Overall purpose of the post

The post holders will be required to;

Be directed by the Coordinator to transport and resettle service users back into their homes following an A&E visit. These posts are part of the Health and Social Care Team at the British Red Cross.

These posts will require 2 elements;
a) Resettlement, and

b) Sitting (waking nights)

It is anticipated that a resettlement shift would last anything up to 2 hours between the hours of 4pm – 12am, and that the sitting service would be provided where deemed necessary by A&E staff in shifts from 6pm – 12am (various hours), and from 12am – 8am. Please state in your application whether you are able to fulfil both or only one of these elements.

These are fast paced roles which require motivated, committed and enthusiastic people with good communication skills and an ability to deal with people in a sensitive yet professional manner.
