Thrift Store Manager SOS Children’s Village BC Thrift

Reporting directly to the SOS Children’s Village BC Executive Director, the role of Thrift Store Manager is to assure consistent profitability whilst maintaining high standards in store merchandising, marketing and promotions, customer service, public relations and in store personnel safety. In addition the Manager is also responsible for the daily management, recruitment, recognition and retention of volunteers in conjunction with designated SOS BC administration staff.
This is a shared Management position between two part-time Store Managers, splitting the six days the store is open three working days each. It is critical for the manager to be able to work collaboratively with the partnering Store Manager to ensure success and efficiency of ongoing operations.
Responsibilities:
· Create a pleasant and hospitable atmosphere in the store and assure that customers are served in a cheerful and courteous manner;
· Be an active strong leader with keen team building skills;
· Oversee customer relations including the handling of complaints;
· Provide direction for the attractive display of merchandise and utilization of floor space;
· Monitor and track the flow of store donations and implement effective and efficient stock handling procedures;
· Establish and monitor product price guidelines;
· Assure that appropriate signage is displayed for the identification and promotion of merchandise, store hours and store policies;
· Oversee the enforcement of store policies and communicate policy changes to all volunteers;
· Assure that customers are served in a clean and attractive environment by maintaining a high standard of cleanliness of the store interior and the immediate surrounding exterior areas of the store;
· Constantly liaise with media to leverage value added print, air time for PR and promotional campaigns;
· Liaise with local community groups to promote awareness of SOS Children’s Village and Treasure Cottage;
· Prepare annual business development plans, store budgets and strategic planning materials as directed by the Executive Director
· Evaluate cash security on an ongoing basis and ensure the maintenance of appropriate banking and petty cash procedures;
· Consolidate and review petty cash disbursements;
· Assure all financial and sales reports are completed and distributed accurately;
· Oversee maintenance schedules of store property and equipment and ensure that health and safety issues are identified and dealt with in a timely manner;
· Responsible for all store security, safety and fire safety issues;
· Monitor volunteer staffing levels and develop an ongoing strategic plan for recruitment with designated SOS BC administration staff;
· Maintain volunteer data base, including volunteer appreciation award status in conjunction with designated SOS BC administration staff;
· Review weekly store schedules and ensure adequate daily volunteer coverage, assigning volunteers as necessary;
· Screen and recruit applicants for all volunteer positions;
· Perform a 6 month review for all new volunteers to assure assignment suitability;
· Facilitate effective channels of communication between volunteers, resolving conflicts in an expeditious manner;
· Liaise with Executive Director and SOS administration staff to prepare materials for board meetings, newsletters, budget meetings and strategic planning sessions.
Additional Responsibilities:
· Acts as a representative at SOS BC events to create awareness for the store operation;
· Is an active member of SOS Children’s Village BC and attends speaking engagements on occasion
Qualifications:
· Ability to relate to customers and volunteers in a warm, enthusiastic and personable manner;
· Ability to energetically, positively and effectively direct;
· Experience in volunteer management an asset;
· Experience in retail operations;
· Be detailed and be well organized;
· Computer literate in MS Word, Excel, Outlook;
· Flexible schedule;
· Minimum Grade 12 educations or equivalent;
· Good physical health and able to lift 20 to 30 pound bags or boxes;
· Access to a reliable vehicle;
