ROCKEFELLER 3RD SCHOLARS PROGRAM, FELLOWSHIP

Winrock’s current agriculture-related capacity building programs in Indonesia include John D. Rockefeller 3RDScholars Program (www.winrock.org/JDR) and two USDA-funded fellowship programs. The fellow will support the expansion of these two programs and may assist with efforts to start additional new initiatives in Indonesia. The fellow’s primary responsibilities will be program planning, fundraising, and representational work to build relationships with private companies, foundations, and the US Government. The fellowship is for six months and the position may be extended based on the fellow’s success bringing in funds.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Fundraise for JDR 3RD scholars program and US-GOI partnership programs
    • Research prospective donors, including private sector, foundations and government agencies
    • Request in-person meetings with potential donors to secure invitations for proposals
    • Serve as lead writer on proposals to potential donors
    • Follow up on proposal submissions through e-mail and in-person meetings

  1. Serve as Field Representative for the JDR 3RD Scholars Program
    • Facilitate regular meetings of the current JDR 3RD project team and its expert reviewers
    • Serve as liaison with IPB to manage ongoing JDR 3RD project team
  • When funding is secured for a new team, provide support and direction to the grant competition judging committee, review committee, and project team

  1. Lead Winrock’s participation in the US-GOI partnership to develop the next generation of leaders in agriculture
    • Work with leading international scholars, agribusiness companies, and Winrock’s network of fellows in Indonesia to identify issues facing small holder farmers and possible solutions
    • Manage existing Winrock programs that support capacity building and the partnership, including the USDA-funded Borlaug Scholars Program and Bio-Technical Speaker Series

All three tasks will require the applicant to:

  • Represent Winrock and the JDR 3RD Scholars Program at high-level meetings Oversee project activities to ensure smooth management and timely implementation
  • Address and proactively identify problems and challenges
  • Ensure sound management of finances, and ensure that all financial transactions follow WI policy
  • Oversee and be responsible for financial and administrative aspects of the project including managing the country budget, and ensure timely payments are made
  • Closely follow the implementation plan and monitor each deliverable and/or milestone
  • Prepare brief periodic reports one month prior to the board meeting which will include an assessment of research team progress and stories about the scholars/events


Qualifications


Education:

  • Ph.D. preferred. Preferred disciplines include agriculture, agribusiness, agriculture economics, agriculture extension, or rural development

Experience:

  • Minimum three years experience required, including management of development projects
  • Demonstrated track record of effectively supervising staff and coordinating programs with partners from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences
  • Experience in the agricultural field

Skills:

  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Excellent management, communication, and organization skills
  • Basic computer skills (word-processing, spreadsheets, and databases)
  • Comfortable in high-level representational role as well as interacting with villagers
  • Comfortable networking and cooperating with other projects.
  • Able to complete projects timely and comfortable working with strict deadlines
