The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is the government agency which is responsible for ensuring that medicines and medical devices work, and are acceptably safe.

Purpose of Role:

Pharmacoepidemiologists are required to carry out statistical/epidemiological research to inform regulatory decision-making on drug safety issues for marketed medicines, to provide dedicated support on pharmacovigilance assessment activities and to audit the impact of regulatory action.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Undertaking population-based observational studies using electronic healthcare databases to evaluate potential associations between drugs and adverse events
  • Providing epidemiological/statistical advice to staff within the pharmacovigilance group
  • Conducting research to investigate drug prescribing patterns to help understand the impact of regulatory action

Please note that all positions in the MHRA require good all round I.T. skills, particularly MS Office. However, some positions require more specialist skills.

Please note that the full salary pay range for these roles is £37,175 - £45,769. Progression to the maximum of the salary range will be dependent on performance and Government policy on pay.
