Position Title: Oxygen Plant Operator Lead Hand/Advisor/Advisor
Reports To: Oxygen Plant Coordinator
Based: Pueblo Viejo Mine Site
Position Overview:
This will be a 4 weeks on/3 weeks off, fly in/fly out shared position at the Pueblo Viejo mine site in the Dominican Republic. The incumbent will be responsible for the operation of 2 X 2000 Ton per Day O2 Air Separation plants and will directly supervise 4 O2 Plant Operators. The O2 Plant Operator Lead Hand/Advisor will be on site through final construction and will participate in commissioning and start up of the O2 plant. The O2 Plant Operator Lead Hand/Advisor will also ensure that all operational procedures are initiated, implemented and adhered to by the O2 Plant Operators. The operator will interact with POX Operations Supervision to ensure that Safety and Production goals are continuously met.
Main Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Review and follow the design of the O2 plant and be able to operate and monitor all associated equipment.
  • Review and understand the process control strategies and recommend changes if required.
  • Work with the maintenance group and O2 Plant GS to identify the appropriate level of critical and long term spare parts.
  • Participate in the development of predictive and preventative maintenance procedures.
  • Based on the established classifications, skills and training requirements, assist with hiring 4 each O2 Plant Operators
  • In collaboration with the safety department and O2 Plant GS, perform risk assessment of the operation, equipment, critical tasks and workplace inspections. Assist with development of procedures or acquire equipment for the safety of all plant personnel
  • Assist with development, writing and implementing operational procedures. Conduct training, theoretical and hands on, with the control room operators and maintenance technicians. An in depth understanding of the process and equipment is required for this position. The incumbent must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
During the pre-commissioning and operations phase of the project
· Supervise O2 Plant Operators required for the SAFE operation of the O2 plant
· Assist, with activities associated with pre-commissioning, commissioning & handover. Select operations will be used to provide training and plant familiarity.
· Collaborate with maintenance to identify equipment or control problems. This also includes proper equipment transfer and lock out of equipment.
· Assist in Development and training of O2 Plant Operators to maximize reliability and efficiency of the ASU operation
· Lead and assist with the implementation of the safety and training programs, including (but not limited to) the development of the Risk management, Standard Operating Procedures, (SOP’s), Standard Maintenance Procedures (SMP’s), Workplace Inspections, Task Observations, Management of Change and Training programs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
4 each O2 Plant Operators and provide direction for assistant plant operations technicians.

Education:
High School Diploma minimum, Post Secondary certificate preferred.
Experience:
5 years of ASU plant experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role is preferred. Additionally, practical experience in operation of, water treatment and cooling towers is preferred.
Skills & Abilities:
  • Must be able to work unsupervised in a pro-active and productive manner.
  • Must hold strong diagnosis skills in fault finding, and resolve issues with minimal impact to production.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must have strong coaching, mentoring, and communication and management skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
