OPEC - IT Services Coordinator

OPEC's mission is to help stabilise the oil market through coordination of national oil production policies and to help oil producers achieve a reasonable investment return. It further helps ensure stable oil supplies for consumers. The advertised post is located at the OPEC Secretariat in Vienna, Austria, headed by the Secretary General, who carries out the executive functions of the Organization.

Job Dimensions:

The IT Services Section is responsible for ensuring availability and optimal performance of the computer network facilities, particularly the e-mail, internet and printing systems, including hardware and software planning and replacement as well as printing and the telecommunication system for the entire Secretariat.

The IT Services Coordinator coordinates and supervises the activities of the IT Services Section to maintain a solid and reliable computer network infrastructure, specifies hardware and software requirements, analyses available options and makes appropriate recommendations to the Head, Administration & IT Services Department as well as evaluates user needs and provides support as required.

Required Competencies and Qualifications:

  • University degree (advanced degree preferred) in Computer science or related field
  • A minimum of 10 years (8 years in case of an advanced degree) in IT, whereof 2 years in a supervisory/coordinating position
  • Training/specialization in MS Operating Systems, Novell, Unix, exchange mail server, Firewall management, PC and network troubleshooting, user support skills
  • Managerial/leadership skills, analytical/presentation and team building skills as well as customer service orientation

Status and Benefits:

Members of the Secretariat are international employees whose responsibilities are not national but exclusively international. In carrying out their functions they have to demonstrate the personal qualities expected of international employees such as integrity, independence and impartiality.

The post is at grade D reporting to the Head of Administration & IT Services Department. The compensation package, including expatriate benefits, is commensurate with the level of the post.
