The Department of Arts and Language Education is responsible for the pre-service education of teachers in English/Literacy and Arts and for tutors/teachers in a range of adult literacy settings, and undertakes a wide range of research in these areas.

We are particularly interested in suitably qualified individuals to contribute to courses in pre-service teacher education in literacy, literacy-related papers at a postgraduate level and also papers with a particular focus on writing, and cultural and linguistic diversity.

Knowledge of theories of literacy and literacy instruction, particularly in primary schools, as well as theories of writing and writing pedagogy are essential for these positions. Supervision of students on practicum visits is also required.

A PhD is essential at Senior Lecturer level. A Masters degree is the minimum requirement at Lecturer level; a PhD is strongly preferred. Enrolment in a PhD will be a condition of appointment to the Lecturer position.

Current salary range for Lecturers is NZ$65,886 to NZ$80,441 per year and for Senior Lecturers is NZ$82,468 to NZ$110,614 per year
