Lecturer in Condensed Matter Correlated Electron Physics

£33,734 - £44,016
Bristol

The School of Physics seeks an outstanding candidate to work in close collaboration with other members of the Bristol Correlated Electron Systems (CES) group on experimental studies of the magnetic and electronic structure of materials such as: unconventional superconductors, novel magnetic systems, low dimensional conductors and topological insulators. In particular, we are seeking an applicant who has a strong interest in the synthesis of these materials.

The Bristol CES group consists currently of five permanent academic staff, two technical support staff along with research fellows, post-doctoral associates and graduate students. The group has extensive facilities for making high magnetic field/low temperature measurements, including superconducting magnets up to 20T and several dilution refrigerators. We have a dedicated helium liquefier. Our current research is focussed on studies of cuprate and iron based high temperature superconductors, low dimensional conductors and novel technological alloys. We employ a variety of experimental techniques both laboratory based in Bristol and in international facilities such as the high field magnet laboratories in Toulouse and Tallahassee, Neutron facilities such as ISIS, ILL and PSI, and synchrotron x-ray sources such as SPRING-8.

We wish to appoint someone who will take a leading role in extending the sample synthesis capabilities of the group. You will have a strong interest in the physics of these materials and should have an excellent track record in experimental studies using techniques already in use in the group or complementary techniques such as angle resolved photoemission spectroscopy, x-ray spectroscopy, or scanning tunnelling spectroscopy.

For informal enquiries please contact Professor A Carrington on +44 (0) 117 928 8713 or e-mail a.carrington@bristol.ac.uk
