Institutional Strengthening Advisor

OVERVIEW IntraHealth International, Inc. is currently accepting expressions of interest from potential Institutional Strengthening Advisor candidates interested in IntraHealth’s submission for the upcoming USAID-funded Global HRSA project in Chapel Hill, NC. The Institutional Strengthening Advisor serves as a senior technical expert in strengthening nursing and midwifery educational institutions, regulatory bodies and professional associations in up to 12 priority countries (high need and low resource countries primarily in Africa). S/he is responsible for designing project strategies, developing work plans, and overseeing activities in order to improve the production, quality and relevance of nurses and midwives to addresses essential population-based health needs in selected priority countries. S/he will oversee and support field based Country Coordinators and will report to the Project Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES • Provide overall strategic inputs and guidance for the institutional strengthening strategies and work plan of the project.
• Collaborate with local partners to assess their capacity building needs and develop strategies and activities to strengthen identified areas. • Provide technical inputs and oversight for activities to strengthen and improve nursing and midwifery leadership, working with field level Country Coordinators (based in local training institutions) and local stakeholders including nursing and midwifery training institutions, professional associations and regulatory councils. • Develop sustainability strategies and work with regional and local partners to ensure the transfer of capacities. • Ensure technical quality and achievement of objectives, as per the project work plan and budget. • Serve as a senior project leader; Contribute to overall project work planning and reporting; Liaise with USG donors and ensure alignment with the donor priorities and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION • Master’s degree or higher in Nursing, Public Health, Education, or other relevant subject area • At least ten years of experience in international health and development, preferably with USG funded projects and in Africa • Demonstrated experience in capacity building and institutional strengthening, preferably with training institutions and/or organizations and/or in health workforce development • Proven record of excellent team management, leadership, project implementation, and interpersonal skills • Experience in nursing and/or HIV/AIDS programs strongly preferred • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English required; Ability to communicate professionally in French or Portuguese desirable
