FOREST MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST– Liberia

Tetra Tech ARD (http://www.ardinc.com), a leading international development consulting firm based in Burlington, Vermont and Washington, D.C., is currently accepting expressions of interest from qualified candidates for a Forest Management Specialist on a multi-year USAID-funded forest management and biodiversity program in West Africa. The program’s overall goal is to advance the policy and practice of forest resource management and biodiversity conservation in Liberia while supporting the development of livelihood alternatives to forest-dependent communities.

Responsibilities: • The Forest Management Specialist is the lead technical specialist forestry operations and management; provides technical inputs to design, implementation, and reporting activities in these technical areas. • Overall responsibility to build community capacity to develop forest management plans in compliance with national laws and regulations • Design, implement and train national staff and communities in timber and non-timber forest product inventory data collection and analysis methodologies; • Conduct training for project staff and community groups on forest management-related topics. • Provide input into forest management planning and implementation • Support the development of agroforestry systems and component technologies

Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry required, Masters degree preferred.
• At least 5 years experience designing and implementing community forest management plans in tropical forests. • Knowledge of tropical forest ecology in West Africa. • Training and curriculum design experience preferred.
