The Legal Department is a diverse and dynamic team within our firm, with 28 lawyers located in the US, EMEA and Asia. The Legal Department provides comprehensive legal services and broad risk management support to our firm’s leadership, consultants and support staff throughout the world.

This position will be based in EMEA and will focus on employment matters for McKinsey primarily in EMEA and Asia. The individual will work closely with the “People” team of lawyers, 2 of whom are in New York and 1 of whom is in Brussels, as well as other lawyers in the department. The individual will be expected to liase with a number of individuals within the Firm (e.g., Professional Development and Staffing professionals, office and sector leadership, HR managers, local administrative leaders, the Firm’s Ombuds, and the Firm’s Director of Diversity), as well as outside counsel worldwide.

Responsibilities

This position encompasses a diverse range of responsibilities including:

  • Providing counsel on a variety of employment issues such as equality and diversity matters, disciplinary and grievance topics, discrimination and harassment matters, hiring, terminations (including role eliminations and reductions in force), secondments, works council matters, employment data protection issues and various employment initiatives;
  • Developing and reviewing template offer letters and employment contracts;
  • Drafting and negotiating agreements with independent contractors, and working with Tax & Compensation and Benefits colleagues on various issues including appropriate classification of third-party service providers;
  • Participating in the development and interpretation of policies on a variety of employment-related subjects;
  • Managing the firm’s involvement in actual or potential employment litigation;
  • Managing and working with the firm's outside employment counsel.

Ideal Candidate

  • Minimum 3 years of employment law experience (with top law firm or multinational corporation), across several European countries;
  • Top academic credentials including professional legal qualification in an EU jurisdiction;
  • Strong English language skills (fluency in another European language or Arabic will be considered a definitive plus);
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills;
  • Confident team player who is highly collaborative and flexible;
  • Keen ability to influence;
  • Highly autonomous;
  • Impeccable business judgment and ethics;
  • Ability to develop relationships and network within and outside the firm;
  • Enjoys working in a challenging, fast-paced, dynamic professional services firm.
