Egypt: Resident Political Party Trainer

The National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI) seeks a Resident Political Party Training Specialist to coordinate and conduct training for political parties and activities in Egypt. The Political Party Training Specialist will develop individualized training plans, in consultation with local party leaders and branches of national parties, based on the needs of the parties in the region. The position is based in Egypt and will require travel throughout the country. This is currently an unaccompanied post.

This role will be hired at a grade commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience level, which may range from Officer to Senior Manager.

Required Skills

  • Assist in the management of the overall implementation of NDI’s political party strengthening program in Egypt;
  • Assist Egyptian political parties with organizational development, volunteer recruitment with special focus on youth and women, candidate/campaigning, focus group research, message development, public outreach, and gender sensitivity for male political leaders;
  • Develop specific initiatives to promote the role of youth as leaders within parties and as political candidates;
  • Ensure programmatic goals are achieved and operational and reporting requirements are adhered to;
  • Maintain relationships with key partners in civil society, government and the donor community; and,
  • Draft and submit field reports that monitor and measure program results and political developments.

Responsibilities

  • Bachelors Degree, preferably in International Relations or related subject, graduate degree preferred;
  • A minimum of four (4) years relevant work experience as a political party trainer or working with legislatures or political parties at the state/provincial or national level. Additional years of relevant work experience may be substituted for educational requirement on a one-for-one basis;
  • Living/working experience outside of the US preferred;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity to effectively interact with all levels of staff, policy makers, government personnel, members of donor organizations, and funders;
  • Training experience, workshop design and facilitation skills;
  • Fluency in oral and written English required, with additional fluency in Arabic desirable;
  • Experience in democratic governance development, preferably with political party organizations, candidate campaigning, parliaments, and local governments;
  • Superior oral communications skills to effectively present information, respond to questions and negotiate;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with senior political and civic leaders as well as members of the donor and diplomatic community;
  • Ability to communicate skills and experience to others as a trainer and advisor;
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows environment, email and internet technology and spreadsheets.
