SRI Executive Search has been retained by our client, the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), to appoint a visionary leader to the prestigious role of Chief Executive Officer. The CEO will lead the further development of IWMI’s strong profile in water and land management. IWMI’s mission is “to improve the management of land and water resources for food, livelihoods and the environment”. The Director General will be based at IWMI’s headquarters in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and report to IWMI’s international governing board.

Required qualifications include:

· Strong visionary and strategic leadership, with a proven record of managing a research institution, and proven ability in resource mobilisation.

· High academic qualifications and comprehensive experience in water resources and/or land/irrigation management in developing countries.

· Broad understanding of sustainable cross-sectorial water resources and agricultural developments, and the global issues affecting them.

· Effective and persuasive communication skills in English (skills in other languages desirable).

· Strong abilities in building networks and partnerships.

The Director General is appointed for a 5-years term, with the possibility of renewal for a second term. An internationally competitive package of salary and benefits is offered.

IWMI is an autonomous, non-profit research organisation supported by the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). IWMI has a budget of USD 32 million and a staff of 250. More information about IWMI can be obtained at www.iwmi.cgiar.org.
