DEPUTY DIRECTOR Careers & Counselling COUNSELLING UNIT

Duties: The successful candidate will be expected to (i) assist the Director in the formulation, review, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of counselling services policy in line with UB policies (ii) coordinate and manage all Counselling Unit services (iii) make recommendations and liaise with appropriate organizations nationally, regionally and internationally, to acquire new technologies and strengthen the objectives of the Counselling Unit services (iv) provide consultation services to academic departments/faculties and other Units involved with student services (v) develop linkages with support systems and helping networks in and outside UB and serve as an advocate for individual clients (vi) establish programmes to involve parents and other members of the family influential in the choices, plans decisions, and learning activities of the students (vii) participate in administrative routine tasks of the Unit (viii) participate in departmental & interdepartmental research (ix) supervise, mentor, appraise staff and recommend in-service training, promotion, etc. (x) participate in community service (xi) and attend to other professional duties as assigned by the Centre.

Requirements: A Masters Degree in Guidance and Counselling, Counsellor Education, Counselling or Clinical Psychology and Human Services, Behavioural Sciences or related area. A minimum of five years work experience in a university or comparative setting. Posses knowledge, experience and skills in policy, programme development, counselling issues and budgeting.
