Assistant Project Accountant Transparency International (TI)

Transparency International (TI) is the global civil society organisation leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 90 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.

Main function: Supporting effective financial management of multi-country project focusing on the MENA region

Reporting lines: Reports to Senior Project Accountant
Location: TI-Secretariat, Berlin, Germany

Responsibilities:

To support the Senior Project Accountant in daily matters, in particular in the following areas:

  • Review, Approval and Monitoring of Project Budgets
  • Liaison with Project Operational Leader on financial management issues
  • Initial analysis of project partner financial reports
  • Preparation of draft financial reports both internal and external
  • Preparation and carrying out of project audits and closure
  • Develop user friendly tools, templates and procedures to standardise and facilitate project financial management, control and reporting (taking specific donor requirements into account)
  • Support of year end work
  • Preparation and collation of project documentation

Knowledge, experience and skills:

  • Excellent oral and written skills in English; French, Arabic and other languages an advantage
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office, especially advanced knowledge of Excel, is a requirement
  • Knowledge of contract management and ERP systems an advantage
  • Good communication skills, especially explaining accounting and financial matters to non-financial staff
  • Strong organisational skills, creativity and attention to detail
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines
  • Capacity to work independently and as part of a team
  • Cultural sensitivity and excellent diplomatic skills
  • Education/studies in Accountancy, or related subject
  • At least 2 years practical experience with donor related project management, financial monitoring and accounting thereof; preferably in international organisations
  • Multi-country/cultural project management experience
  • MENA regional experience an advantage.

TI Secretariat reserves the right to appoint to another staff level subject to education and qualifications.
