National progressive publication seeks full-time assistant online news editor who is passionate about progressive issues, news and the power of independent media.
Assistant News Editor's job duties:
- Meticulously follow breaking news
- Maintain timeliness of website content and quality check websites throughout the day
- Build, test, quality check and send email newsletter updates
- Make independent editorial decisions about article selection and positioning; file and post stories, images and video.
- Work on a variety of other special projects.
The ideal candidate:
- has strong writing skills -- writing/reporting experience a plus.
- has experience in progressive activism and/or progressive media.
- has spent time in a breaking news environment.
- should be internet and website savvy.
- should be very familiar with a broad range of internet news and media outlets.
- should be comfortable with a job that occasionally requires flexible hours/weekends.
- should be a good team player under pressure.
