ACCOUNTANT - KENYA KickStart

KickStart International is an award winning non-profit social enterprise with a mission to help millions of people in developing countries escape from poverty and to “kickstart” sustainable economic growth. KickStart develops simple money-making tools and markets them to poor, entrepreneurial persons who use them to start profitable new businesses, increase their family wealth and boost local economic growth. The organization is recruiting for a qualified, enthusiastic Accountant. This person will be based in Nairobi, Kenya and will report to the Country Accountant. The Accountant will be responsible for providing financial and administrative support in the Accounts Receivable sections and contribute to the effective and efficient running of the finance function.

Principle Accountabilities

1. Trade Receivables:

ü Posting receipts

ü Posting credit notes

ü Application of receipts & credit notes

ü Review of dealer reconciliations-Active

ü Extracting and sending Aged Receivable Analysis to sales team

ü Other receivable analysis (other than AR)

ü Follow up on overdue accounts-Active

ü Dealer reconciliations/follow up with debt collectors-Inactive

ü Ensuring that dealer statements are sent on a monthly basis

ü Dealer visits on a quarterly basis

ü Creating new vendor accounts

ü Review of dealer accounts master data.

2. Staff debtors:

ü Posting Employee Expense Reports (EERs)

ü Posting receipts for under-spent business advance

ü Review of Staff Debit Notes for unreturned under-spends

ü Ensuring that staff statements are sent on a monthly basis

ü Ensuring that staff reconciliation are sent on a monthly basis

  1. Updating/review of the sales and collection reports on a monthly basis
  2. Review and Posting of Journals (JVs)

  1. MPesa:

ü Posting receipts from customers

ü Posting credit notes for customers who have paid in full

ü Reconciliation of customer accounts

  1. General Ledger accounts reconciliations
  2. Account Receivables Month end closing review and reporting

Skills and competencies

  • Must have 2-3 years work experience in a busy commercial establishment.
  • Must be qualified accountant with CPA 4, degree holders will have an added advantage
  • Proactive
  • Computer skills (with accounting systems)
  • Detail oriented, capable planner, manager and strong analytical skills
  • Must have in depth understanding of accounting systems
  • Hands on and self driven
  • Fluent in English and Kiswahili
